Rachel has been excellent with our daughter Sofia over the last two years. Rachel’s patience, kindness, dedication and tremendous knowledge in speech therapy has given us comfort that our daughter (and family) is in great hands. Her incredible energy and creativity come through with every session. We’ve been very lucky to have her. I would 100% recommend.
One of our twins was diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder at the age of 3 while the other had quite a significant speech delay. This was an extremely challenging time for our family, and the limited sessions we were able to access on the NHS had little effect. It was at this time that Rachel started to help us. Over the years, she has provided sessions both in our home and in a more formal therapy environment, and has also observed the boys in school and given their teachers invaluable advice. When comparing Rachel’s innovative methods to other more traditional models, we can honestly say that Rachel’s input has by far had the most success. This is clearly due to her ability to understand and adapt to the child in front of her rather than to slavishly follow a rigid formula, and we would absolutely not hesitate to recommend her to anyone whose child is experiencing communication difficulties. Her holistic, novel approach and fun way of engaging with children has made a huge difference to all of our lives and we feel very fortunate to have found her when we did!
Evan has gone through various different therapists and many different approaches, and it was a blessing when Rachel came into our lives. Not only do we understand his behaviour more than we ever have, but Evan looks forward to Rachel's sessions and leaves with a big smile on his face. I am able to change activities so that he learns and communicates and we both don’t leave frustrated and upset. He is making so much progress in his communication and I cannot thank Rachel enough for bringing more joy into our lives!
I was fortunate to hear about Rachel and the DIR model through a friend when my daughter was very little. I came to Rachel a blubbering mess when I felt my daughter was not progressing properly at around 18 months. My gut instincts were telling me something was wrong but every professional I came across told me that “It was OK”, “All children are different” and “Be patient, language will come”. Rachel listened and was the first professional to validate my concerns. She guided my thinking and knowledge and over the years has helped me to advocate for Lydia during progress meetings. She has also recommended equally wonderful OT’s and Play Therapists who now support Lydia regularly.
